ORGANIZATION

The NPC is a national-level organization to promote a productivity culture in India. Established as a Registered Society in 1958, it is an autonomous, multipartite, nonprofit organization with equal representation from employers’ and workers’ organizations and government, apart from technical and professional institutions and other interests. The NPC is a constituent of the Tokyo-based APO, an intergovernmental Body, of which the Government of India was a founding member.

The Union Minister for Industry is the President of the NPC, and the Secretary (Industrial Policy and Promotion) is its Chairman. The Director General is the CEO. The NPC has 13 regional professional management groups, located in major state capitals/industrial centers with corporate headquarters in New Delhi. It has around 150 full-time professionals/consultants. In addition, the services of outside specialists and faculty are also enlisted in projects based on requirements.

Mission

Development, dissemination, and application of knowledge and experience in productivity for promoting consciousness of and improvement in productivity, with the objective of strengthening the performance and competitiveness of the economy as well as of improving working conditions and the quality of life.

ACTIVITIES

The NPC has more than five decades of experience in deploying the best practices, preferred methods and standards, and advanced productivity software across a spectrum of industries and services. The organization specializes in a wide range of services to promote productivity, competitiveness, and cost-effectiveness through:

Awareness Generation

Propagating productivity, quality, and competitiveness through seminars, workshops, and other suitable mass media instruments.

Consultancy

Improving productivity for competitiveness through consultancy work to the private and public corporate sectors, SMEs, central and state governments, and other client groups.

Training

Training of executive managers, workers, supervisors, and others.

Research

Conducting research studies and surveys on productivity and related matters.

Process Management

TQM, ISO9000:2000, ISO17025, ISO/TS16949, business process reengineering, kaizen, Six Sigma, benchmarking, customer satisfaction measurement, assessment based on the EFQM/MBNQA business excellence framework, project management.

Information Technology

Management information systems, e-governance, IT infrastructure planning, knowledge management, design and development of customized applications in human resources management, financial management, materials management, project management services for IT projects.

Energy Management

Energy management and audits, cogeneration, demand-side management, renewable and green energy sources, process optimization, and energy conservation.

Environmental Management

Integrated environmental planning, environmental audits, cleaner production techniques, solid and hazardous waste management, waste minimization and utilization, Green Productivity, ISO14000, and OSHAS 18000.

Economic Services

Policy research and technoeconomic consultancy, Pproductivity measurement, monitoring and evaluation of various government schemes.

Human Resources Development

Manpower planning and rationalization, competency/skills mapping/assessment, work culture, participative group activities, workload assessment, organizational redesign, productivity-linked reward/wages schemes, training needs assessment systems and procedures, material requirement planning, management information systems, project management, stress and time management, cost reduction, neurolinguistic programming.

Technology Management
