African Program

International CooperationParticipants celebrating the successful completion of the training course

To build on its contributions to the global productivity movement, the APO launched its African Program with special funding from the Government of Japan in 2006. The program commenced with the Roundtable Conference for Promotion of the Productivity Movement in Africa held in Sandton, South Africa, in August 2006.The program continued until 2010, with additional support from ROC, in collaboration with the Pan African Productivity Association (PAPA).

2010

  • 25 January–12 February 2010:
    Advanced Training Course for Productivity Practitioners was conducted in Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty-nine participants from six PAPA member countries attended. (Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia)
  • 1–26 November 2010:
    Basic Training Course for Productivity Practitioners was conducted in Johannesburg, South Africa with more participating countries. (Botswana, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Swaziland, and Zambia)

 

2009

  • 11 November 2009:
    The APO received a study mission from Africa to Japan sponsored by the JPC. [more]
  • 7 September – 2 October 2009:
    The basic training course on Development of Productivity Practitioners was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty eight participants from six PAPA member countries took part in the program. [more]
  • 13–15 May 2009:
    Workshop on Productivity and Social Dialogue in Africa
    In an effort to support the productivity movement in Africa, the APO participated in the workshop on Productivity and Social Dialogue in Africa in Nazareth, Ethiopia, 13−15 May 2009, by deputing APO Expert Kelvin Chan. [more]

    28 April – 16 May 2008:
    The Advanced Training Course for Productivity Practitioners was conducted in Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty-eight participants from six PAPA countries attended. [more]
  • 28–30 May 2008:
    Three APO delegations, led by Secretary-General Shigeo Takenaka, Development Academy of the Philippines President Antonio D. Kalaw, Jr., and PAPA President Tembo Legang, attended the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) in Yokohama, Japan. All three delegations took part in official programs and side events to promote the productivity activities of their member nations and the APO African Program.
  • 4 June 2008:
    The APO received a study mission from Africa to Japan sponsored by the JPC-SED.
  • 29–30 October 2008:
    The Expert Meeting on the Development of PAPA and the APO Productivity Partnership Program was held in Singapore. Experts from the NPOs of India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand attended to formulate the draft program framework. [more]

    10 November – 5 December 2008:
    The second Basic Training Course on Productivity Practitioners was conducted in Johannesburg, South Africa. This four-week intensive course trained 25 participants from five PAPA member nations in the basic tools and skills for productivity promotion and developing a productivity mindset. [more]
  • 5 December 2008:
    The proposed new APO and PAPA Productivity Partnership Program was presented at the PAPA board meeting. The meeting agreed to proceed with the new partnership program. [more]
  • The new partnership program will start with a need assessment, followed by a workshop and the deputation of experts from the NPOs of the APO.

 

2007

    22–23 March 2007:
    The APO deputed two experts, MPC Director-General Dato’ Nik Zainiah Nik Abdul Rahman and former GPAC Vice Chairman Masatoshi Yoda, to share Asian experiences at the TICAD Ministerial Conference on Energy and Environment for Sustainable Development in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • 2–27 July 2007:
    After organizing two preparatory meetings in Singapore and Johannesburg, South Africa, the first special training course for NPO officials in PAPA members, the Basic Training Course for Productivity Practitioners, was held in South Africa. Thirty participants from six PAPA member countries attended. Discussions and preparations for the Advanced Course for Productivity Practitioners to be held in 2008 were also held.  
  • The Secretariat received two multicountry study missions from Africa to Japan sponsored by the JPC-SED

 

2006

  • International CooperationAfrican participants in the APO training program
    9–27 October 2006:
    The Roundtable Conference helped participating countries and PAPA develop productivity master plans. APO sponsorship allowed eight participants from four the African countries of Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, and Mauritius to attend the Development of Productivity Specialists Program held in Manila.
  • 18–22 December 2006:
    An individual-country mission from Zambia to Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur was hosted by the APO and the Malaysian National Productivity Corporation (currently Malaysia Productivity Corporation)
  • The Secretariat received two multicountry study missions from Africa to Japan sponsored by the JPC-SED. The main purpose of the missions was to examine how the productivity movement contributes to economic growth and how to spread awareness of it among various stakeholders based upon the Japanese experience.
