SUMMARY:Workshop on Policies and Schemes on Gender Equality in Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Women are almost half of the agricultural workforce in developing countries. Based on a report by the UN World Food Program\, it is estimated that 60% of people who are food insecure worldwide are women and girls. Inequality makes it harder to increase productivity and reduce poverty and hunger. It also undermines progress toward sustainable agricultural development across multiple dimensions. \nChallenges faced in reducing such inequality include a lack of access to training and capacity development\, land ownership\, extension services\, and finance and wage systems equivalent to those of male workers. Appropriate policies and schemes on various facets of livelihood activities specifically for women could not only resolve gender-equality issues but also contribute to agricultural productivity and food security. Increasing the participation of women in the workforce has been promoted by the APO. This course is part of continued efforts focusing on the agriculture sector. \nFor more details please click on PN.
