SUMMARY:Multicountry Workshop on Enterprise Development and Development of Innovative Startup Business Ecosystems
DESCRIPTION:Enterprises and startups worldwide are facing an increasingly complex environment shaped by rapid technological change\, shifting global value chains\, sustainability demands\, and evolving workforce needs. While innovation is essential for productivity and inclusive growth\, many economies still face challenges in translating innovation into tangible business outcomes. \nWell-designed startups and enterprise ecosystems can help address these challenges by connecting startups\, SMEs\, large firms\, research institutions\, investors\, and other key stakeholders to foster innovation\, technology adoption\, and business growth. In ASEAN and the broader Asia-Pacific region\, startup activity has grown significantly\, but ecosystem maturity varies widely. Many startups struggle to scale\, while established firms face challenges in adopting new technologies and collaborating with startups and research institutions. Strengthening regional collaboration and institutional capacity is therefore essential to support sustainable enterprise growth and resilience. \nThis four-day workshop will explore practical approaches to designing innovative startup ecosystems\, including policy instruments and institutional arrangements that connect startups with established firms. It will also examine emerging trends such as AI adoption\, sustainability-driven innovation\, and cross-border collaboration\, while discussing how ecosystems can support productivity\, workforce development\, and inclusive growth. \nFor more details please click here.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Innovative Value-added Products in the Agriculture Sector (Smart Agriculture)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop aims to strengthen participants’ capacity to apply sustainable soil management practices to enhance agricultural productivity\, in line with the SPP Primer’s focus on resource efficiency and sustainable productivity. \nThis workshop strengthens participants’ capacity to apply sustainable soil management practices to enhance agricultural productivity. It is tagged as a primary contribution to Pillar 2’s smart-agriculture upskilling component and a secondary contribution to Pillar 3’s skilled-workforce agenda. \nIn line with Pillar 2\, the activity will strengthen practical workforce capabilities for smart agriculture by linking sustainable soil management with innovative\, technology- and data-enabled approaches to agricultural production and productivity improvement. Participants will examine how improved resource management and smart-agriculture practices can be applied to enhance production efficiency\, product quality\, and opportunities for value addition in the agriculture sector. \nThe workshop will combine technical learning with practical application and exchange of good practices so that participants can identify suitable approaches for their own institutional and production contexts. Particular emphasis will be placed on translating sustainable soil management and smart-agriculture concepts into practical actions that support innovation\, digitalization\, and workforce upskilling\, consistent with the capacity-development objectives under Pillar 2. \nThrough the activity\, participants are expected to strengthen their ability to apply relevant tools and approaches\, identify productivity and value-addition opportunities\, and disseminate the knowledge gained within their organizations. The resulting practical experience will contribute to broader efforts to strengthen smart-agriculture capabilities and productivity-oriented agricultural transformation. \nFor more details\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Benchmarking Study Visit to Turkiye on Behavioral Insights for Enhancing Public-sector Efficiency\, Regulatory Reform\, and Digital Transformation in Malaysia
DESCRIPTION:Behavioral insights (BI) apply lessons from psychology\, behavioral economics\, and cognitive science to better understand decision-making and encourage positive behavioral change. Recognizing its value\, the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) 2026–2030 identifies BI as a strategic approach to improving outcomes in healthcare\, financial planning\, environmental sustainability\, and public-sector governance. By integrating behavioral science into policymaking\, Malaysia aims to enhance policy effectiveness\, citizen engagement\, and productivity. \nThe Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) has been entrusted to drive the adoption of BI across the public sector. Key initiatives include the National BI Conference\, pilot projects and case studies with government agencies\, and a digital-learning platform to strengthen BI capabilities among public officers and support evidence-based policymaking. \nGiven Turkiye’s notable achievements in public-sector reform\, digital transformation\, and regulatory innovation\, this IOSM will provide Malaysian delegates with practical insights into applications of BI in policymaking and service delivery. It will also facilitate learning on BI governance\, behavioral interventions\, and public–private collaboration\, while creating opportunities to explore mutually beneficial collaboration initiatives between APO members. \nFor more details\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Capacity Building on Innovation-led Productivity Based on ISO 56000
DESCRIPTION:Vietnam is pursuing its transformation toward an innovation-driven\, high-value economy\, with innovation and productivity improvement playing important roles in industrial upgrading and enterprise competitiveness. Under the Vietnam Strategic Partnership Program (SPP)\, priority sector upgrading aims to enable enterprises to move toward higher-value activities through innovation\, standard adoption\, and supplier development. Achieving this transformation requires enterprises not only to improve the efficiency and quality of existing operations\, but also to strengthen their ability to systematically manage innovation and translate new ideas\, technologies\, and business opportunities into sustainable productivity improvement. \nThe ISO 56000 series provides internationally recognized principles\, frameworks\, and guidance for systematically managing innovation in organizations. Innovation management can support productivity improvement by enabling enterprises to identify and prioritize opportunities\, develop and implement innovative solutions\, and create greater value through innovations in products\, services\, processes\, technologies\, management practices\, and business models. Previous APO initiatives have similarly emphasized the role of systematic innovation management in strengthening enterprise productivity and competitiveness. \nIn 2022\, the APO and Vietnam National Productivity Institute (VNPI) jointly implemented the Training Course on Innovation Management Standards for Enterprises\, which introduced innovation management concepts and principles\, practical applications of the ISO 56000 series\, and strategies for utilizing innovation management for productivity enhancement. \nBuilding on this experience\, the two-day Workshop on Innovation-led Productivity Based on ISO 56000 will strengthen participants from APO member economies’ practical understanding of the ISO 56000 series and their capability to apply innovation management approaches to support innovation-led productivity improvement in enterprises. The workshop will cover the key principles and practical applications of innovation management\, approaches to integrating innovation management with productivity improvement initiatives and other management systems\, and tools and good practices for identifying and pursuing innovation opportunities. \nThrough presentations\, discussions\, and practical learning\, the workshop will enable participants to consider how systematic innovation management can be adapted to their institutional and enterprise contexts to support value creation and productivity improvement. \nFor more details\, please click here.
