With increasing carbon emissions\, consumer awareness\, stringent regulations on disclosing efforts to mitigate climate change\, and global competition\, enterprises need to strengthen their triple bottom lines of quality\, profitability\, and environmental protection. \nThe APO conceptualized GP in 1994 to guide enterprises in decoupling their operations from environmental degradation. SUMMARY:Workshop Meeting of Heads of APO Certification Bodies
DESCRIPTION:Since launching the APO-AB in 2018\, seven CBs have been accredited and five NPOs or their affiliated organizations are in various stages of development to become CBs. The role of the APO-AB has become more significant in catering to needs of CBs so that they remain abreast of the latest CB standards compatible with international practices. \nIn the aftermath of COVID-19\, the APO-AB took a number of initiatives including harmonization of APO productivity specialist certification schemes\, revision of CB assessment standards\, development of a CB impartiality plan\, technical support for CB promotion\, standardization of CB certificates\, and\, most importantly\, the establishment of an MRA Framework for cross-border recognition of certified productivity specialists. \nThe 6th Annual Meeting of the APO-AB Council approved the organization of an inaugural workshop meeting of Heads of CBs for sharing experiences and challenges faced and enhancing mutual cooperation among CBs. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on the Regulatory Sandbox Mechanism for Productivity Policies
DESCRIPTION:Regulatory sandbox mechanisms are special forms of experimental regulations allowing for the creation of specific legal regimes for new products and services\, enabling experiments with their practical usage within certain restrictions. Among member economies\, these mechanisms have been implemented in the ROC\, Fiji\, India\, Indonesia\, Malaysia\, Japan\, the ROK\, the Philippines\, Singapore\, Sri Lanka\, Thailand\, Turkiye\, and Vietnam to foster the development of digital innovations and fintech. \nThe introduction of regulatory sandboxes has shown positive effects\, such as increased access to capital\, improved business survival rates\, and increased patenting. The implementation of regulatory sandboxes requires appropriate management\, legal support\, and evaluation mechanisms. \nDifferent approaches to regulatory experiments have been taken\, including regulations on specific issues\, pilot models of innovative technologies\, and creating universal mechanisms for real-life experiments. DESCRIPTION:Numerous internal and external factors such as risk management\, regulations\, brand image\, consumer demand\, and innovation motivate large businesses to work with suppliers to improve business operations\, integrate sustainability principles\, and foster innovation to design ecofriendly products and services. Greening of supply chains calls for developing and implementing GSC programs\, collaborative partnerships with vendors\, and focusing on reverse logistics and product stewardship. \nI4.0 technologies like AI\, additive manufacturing\, the IoT\, and radiofrequency identification (RFID) enable greening in manufacturing\, design\, logistics\, warehousing\, and carbon emission management. Leveraging these technologies individually or in combination has positive implications for productivity\, resource optimization\, workforce skills\, and environmental performance. SUMMARY:Multicountry Observational Study Mission on Implementing the Sufficiency Economy Theory to Sustain Community Development
DESCRIPTION:Introduced by the late King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej in the height of Thailand’s economic crisis in 1997\, the sufficiency economy is a philosophy based on the fundamental principles of Thai culture. It is a method of economic development based on moderation\, prudence\, and social immunity which uses knowledge and virtue as guidelines for living. These economic principles and approaches have gained recognition globally as a model for sustainable development. \nIn 2023\, the Thailand International Cooperation Agency reported that 23\,000 Thai villages had adopted this economic theory and it had spread to neighboring countries such as Lao PDR. In the agrifood sector\, current overproduction\, oversupply\, and overconsumption of agricultural products cause environmental pollution\, depletion of natural resources\, and market price fluctuations that affect incomes and livelihoods in rural communities. \nThe sufficiency economy theory holistically addresses these community issues by moderating and diversifying production while balancing environmental and social resilience.
