SUMMARY:Multicountry Observational Study Mission on Productivity Enhancement in the Healthcare Sector
DESCRIPTION:Improving productivity in healthcare is crucial for reducing costs and enhancing patient care. Embracing technology can enhance efficiency\, reduce errors\, and optimize resource use in the healthcare sector. Technological integration can streamline administrative and care processes\, personalize patient interactions\, automate tasks\, and allow clinicians to focus on complex procedures\, leading to better healthcare outcomes (Deloitte\, Global Healthcare Sector Outlook\, 2024). However\, challenges include limited efficiency improvement opportunities and innovation barriers. \nThe ROK has gained global recognition among the APO members for its effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing significant challenges\, the country propelled the digital transformation of its healthcare industry\, resulting in positive changes. This swift digitalization has advanced real-time treatment and management technologies\, emerging as a prominent new business sector. This study mission will explore the latest trends and tools for enhancing productivity in the healthcare sector in the ROK\, alongside best practices for managing the COVID-19 pandemic. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Job Redesign for the Service Sector
DESCRIPTION:Job redesign refers to the reformation of work tasks and responsibilities to optimize processes and employee allocation for enhanced quality and productivity. While digital technologies support the workforce\, and diversity\, equity\, and inclusion are crucial elements for innovation and profitability\, as a 2023 WEF report indicated\, it is necessary to rethink and restructure how work is defined and performed to attract and retain experienced talent while improving productivity. \nAmong APO members\, Singapore has been a pioneer in job redesign\, especially in the service sector\, to optimize company resources and expand employee competence. The ROC and Japan emphasize workforce inclusiveness and improving employment conditions and environments. This workshop will provide references for job redesign strategies and practices\, especially in the service sector which absorbs the most workers\, to assist APO members in unleashing the potential of their abundant workforces and talent. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Capacity Development for Soil Carbon Visualization
DESCRIPTION:Building upon the results of a need and readiness assessment survey for CSA technologies conducted in 2023\, a preparatory study mission by NARO as the COE on CSA for the implementation of a pilot project in Thailand was organized 23–26 April 2024. The mission introduced the soil carbon sequestration visualization tool and carbon credit methodology to Thailand and other APO members involved in the survey. \nAs part of pilot project implementation\, it was decided to organize a capacity development workshop in Japan on soil carbon visualization for developing the capacity to examine model performance and determine possible adjustments at the regional level. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Conference on Productivity Gainsharing for Rural Development
DESCRIPTION:Rural areas face unique challenges such as limited access to markets\, education\, and decent jobs\, resulting in a continuous influx of populations into cities and aging rural communities. The Future of Asian & Pacific Cities Report 2023 issued by UN ECSAP and Habitat listed issues of rapid urbanization such as social inequality\, food security\, environmental degradation\, and climate change. Rural development is thus critical for balanced socioeconomic growth in the Asia-Pacific region. The APO promotes gainsharing to equitably share the results of productivity improvement. Gainsharing among rural stakeholders may reduce urban migration by generating agribusiness income in rural areas. \nThis conference will examine challenges and opportunities in implementing gainsharing models to foster sustainable rural development\, showcasing best practices and examining key factors in gainsharing models in rural settings. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Study Mission on Improvement of Productivity in Greenhouse Vegetable Production
DESCRIPTION:With the support of a special cash grant from the Government of Japan\, the APO initiated a demonstration farm project in October 2022 on Improvement of Productivity in Greenhouse Vegetable Production. This project aims to demonstrate microclimate control systems used by Japanese greenhouses and help farmers in Vietnam utilize the systems. This will promote labor productivity and sustainability in vegetable production in Vietnam. The Garden Mountain Joint Stock Company was selected as a demonstration company under the project. \nStudy missions are conducted for the beneficiaries to understand the mechanisms of control and microclimate data collection and analysis by referring to selected farms and plant factories in Japan. The first study mission was held from 8 to 10 February 2023\, and participants learned about and observed best practices before installing microclimate control systems. The system was installed after the mission and is currently in operation. This project is the second study mission after the installation of the equipment where participants consider how they could enhance the use of microclimate controls in greenhouses. They will also learn about additional systems in Japan. \nFor more details please click on PN.
