SUMMARY:Workshop on Environmental\, Social\, and Governance (ESG) Initiatives for SME Development
DESCRIPTION:ESG factors are increasingly shaping the business landscape\, influencing investor decisions\, regulatory frameworks\, and consumer preferences. While large corporations have the resources to implement ESG strategies\, SMEs often struggle to adapt to these changes due to a lack of financial and technical capacity. Strengthening ESG adoption among SMEs is essential for enhancing resilience\, improving access to sustainable finance\, fostering responsible business practices\, and improving productivity. Regulatory requirements\, such as sustainability reporting obligations and responsibility frameworks\, are creating new expectations for SMEs. Businesses that successfully incorporate ESG principles can improve operational efficiency\, build stronger stakeholder trust\, and gain a competitive edge. Understanding the evolving ESG landscape and its implications is critical for SMEs to remain viable and competitive in a rapidly transforming market. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Multicountry Observational Study Mission on Principles and Best Practices of the Sufficiency-based Circular Economy
DESCRIPTION:Among major economies in the Asia-Pacific\, Japan and the ROK are frontrunners in setting ambitious net-zero targets for 2050. Focusing on ecoproducts and services\, strategies for responsible production and consumption\, and adopting environment-friendly technological interventions are key aspects of national action plans in the pursuit of a carbon-neutral future. As APO members are at different levels of socioeconomic development\, efforts in developed economies can act as references for replication after customizing to meet local needs and constraints. \nThis OSM is a platform for participants to gain firsthand understanding of the implications of emerging trends and technological interventions in Japan focused on economic and industrial growth with the least environmental impact. Exposure during the OSM will foster efforts in other APO members to design frameworks for overall socioeconomic development. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Conference on Role of Green Productivity in Transition to Cleaner Energy
DESCRIPTION:The World Meteorological Organizations’ State of the Global Climate report confirmed that 2024 was likely the first year with global temperatures over 1.5°C above preindustrial levels. This highlights the urgent need to combat climate change through cleaner\, more sustainable energy systems. Countries are working to diversify energy sources\, boost efficiency\, and reduce fossil fuel dependence. However\, this transition requires a holistic approach that integrates productivity\, environmental sustainability\, and socioeconomic development. \nThe GP concept\, introduced by the APO in 1992\, supports this by promoting actionable strategies like green purchasing\, design changes\, and the 3Rs that enhance both environmental and productivity outcomes. In 2024\, the new GP 2.0 roadmap included the promotion of cleaner energy by encouraging the adoption of low-carbon technologies\, sector-specific green innovations\, and circular economy practices to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation. \nFor more details please click on PN.
