SUMMARY:Capacity-building Program on the APO Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence Framework
DESCRIPTION:The APO COE on IT for Industry 4.0\, established in 2017\, promotes the adoption of Industry 4.0\, AI\, and related digital technologies for productivity improvement through a range of capacity-building\, research\, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. In 2025\, activities focused on developing the APO I4AI Framework\, together with Need and Readiness Self-assessment (NRSA)\, Diagnostic Assessment Framework\, training manual\, assessment toolkit\, and online platform. The framework enables organizations to assess their digital readiness\, identify capacity gaps\, and develop targeted action plans to support responsible digital transformation. \nThis activity\, under the annual Action Plan 2026-27 of the APO COE on IT for Industry 4.0\, will disseminate the framework and associated outputs while strengthening the capacity of NPOs and partner organizations to apply the framework across APO member economies. Delivered through five batches of four-day online sessions\, the program will cover the fundamentals of Industry 4.0 and AI\, responsible AI in manufacturing\, the APO I4AI Framework\, diagnostic assessment\, individual and group-level self-assessment\, case studies\, group exercises\, and actionable recommendations. \nFor more detail please click here.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Development of a Nationwide Model Factory Network
DESCRIPTION:Model factories with industrial infrastructure create unique ecosystems blending theory and practice for capacity building. Designed to train industry workers\, especially SMEs\, they enhance understanding of applications of productivity\, lean manufacturing\, digital transformation\, and Industry 4.0 in real shopfloor settings. Since SMEs represent over 90% of industries in APO members\, assessing model factories’ role in boosting SME productivity and competitiveness is vital. It is also timely to adopt a common framework among APO members. Turkiye is active in this area\, with 12 model factories nationwide serving 4\,600 firms and supporting about 850 SMEs annually through experiential learning and transformation programs. The workshop will share best practices\, offer practical insights\, and accelerate capacity building via model factories. SUMMARY:Multicountry Workshop on AI and Impact on Workforce
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping job roles\, skills requirements\, and workforce structures across economies. While AI presents significant opportunities to enhance productivity\, competitiveness\, and innovation\, it also creates challenges related to job displacement\, skills mismatches\, and workforce readiness—particularly for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and developing labor markets. Many economies lack practical frameworks and institutional capabilities to systematically assess AI’s impact on their workforce and to design targeted\, humancentric workforce transition strategies. There is therefore a strong need for capacity-building platforms that equip policymakers and practitioners with foundational AI literacy\, practical tools to assess workforce impact\, and actionable strategies to develop AI-ready workforces that support inclusive and sustainable growth. \nThis workshop responds to this need by strengthening institutional capabilities and fostering peer learning across participating economies. Objectives include building foundational AI literacy; developing capacities to assess AI’s impact on local labor markets; and establishing strategies for AI-ready workforces.
