SUMMARY:International Conference on Productivity Accreditation and Certification
DESCRIPTION:The International Conference on Productivity Accreditation and Certification to be held in Pakistan is a commemoration of the APO’s Diamond Jubilee which will showcase the productivity improvement journeys in the Asia and Pacific region\, specifically efforts to enhance capabilities of NPOs through accreditation programs. The APO’s 60th anniversary celebrations started in 2021 but the associated commemorative events were rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. \nThe conference’s host country Pakistan was one of the eight founding members of the APO. The NPO Pakistan is mandated to promote productivity in the country and it recently launched a nationwide developmental initiative\, “Improving Competitiveness through Sustainable National Productivity.” The NPO received special recognition by the Planning Commission (PC) of Pakistan and was assigned to undertake “Improving National Competitiveness\,” which is among the seven pillars of the PC’s strategic initiative of “Turn Around Pakistan” aimed at “Improving Competitiveness through Enhanced Productivity\, Innovation\, and Quality for Export-led Growth.” \nThe conference aims to enhance collaboration among NPOs and other stakeholders on the specialized subject of accreditation. It will also deepen knowledge of current and future productivity certification standards among APO members. As an anniversary event\, the conference will take stock of the APO’s achievements over the past six decades and identify new drivers and strengths to ensure its continued contributions to the region. \nFor more details please click on Project Implementation Plan.

SUMMARY:Training Course on Energy Efficiency in SMEs with Special Focus on Electric Motors
DESCRIPTION:Electric motors are used in almost all sectors of industry along with the commercial\, residential\, transport\, and agriculture sectors. With urbanization and industrialization increasing globally\, the number of motors is also increasing\, contributing to CO 2 emissions and climate change. Minimizing the power losses in electric motors while they convert electrical to mechanical energy can contribute to sustainable development. \nThe power consumed by motors accounts to more than 90% of the total product life cycle cost. The Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) Initiative states that doubling the efficiency of new industrial electric motor systems worldwide from 2022 could reduce CO 2 emissions by about a gigatonne by 2030. However\, an upswing in economic activities\, inadequate policy interventions\, lack of know-how on best operating and maintenance practices\, and financial limitations undermine applications of technological advances in the operating efficiency of motors. Although several countries are now shifting to higher efficiency standards as regulatory measures\, they are primarily applicable to new motors. To reach climate targets set out in the Paris Agreement\, there is a need to focus on energy efficiency and its critical role in the energy transition. \nThis training course is in line with the Green Productivity concept developed by the APO on guiding enterprises to enhance productivity and profitability with the least environmental impact. With relevant know-how on approaches to conserve energy in motors acquired during the course\, participants can implement them in industry and disseminate them to create multiplier effects. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Training Course on Innovation Management Standards for Enterprises
DESCRIPTION:With the advent of digital technologies\, the drivers of productivity and competitiveness have shifted from efficiency and quality to innovation and entrepreneurship. For businesses and industries\, innovation can relate to products\, services\, processes\, tools and technologies\, management methods\, and business models. With rapidly shortening product life cycles\, proactively encouraging\, achieving\, and managing innovation have become indispensable steps for sustained productivity enhancement. \nThe ISO 56000 series provides definitions\, references\, and a baseline related to innovation management. The set of standards identifies concrete references and provides guidance for innovation management regardless of the type or size of the organization. This will be especially beneficial for SMEs that typically lack the know-how\, methodology\, and resources for innovation activities. \nThis training course aims to promote enterprise innovation by introducing innovation management principles and concepts along with the requirements of the ISO 56000 set of standards for implementation. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Innovative Business Models for Rural Tourism
DESCRIPTION:According to a report by Fortune Business Insights in 2020\, the market size of agritourism\, a key component of rural tourism\, was USD69.24 billion in 2019 and was projected to reach USD117.37 billion by 2027. The COVID-19 pandemic has slowed this projected growth\, but the global tourism industry is anticipated to rebound through various new government initiatives including boosting rural tourism. \nWith its abundant natural and cultural resources\, the Asia-Pacific region has many growth opportunities in the tourism sector. However\, the region faces various challenges that include establishing sustainable businesses with limited infrastructure and finance\, attracting and retaining travelers amid competition from other destinations\, and adapting to the digital era and a drastically changed post pandemic environment. Many rural communities lack experience and knowledge in developing unique solutions to overcome these challenges\, and they rely on initiatives by the government and tourism industry. Capacity development at the rural community level is thus required. \nThis workshop will showcase innovative rural tourism business models to strengthen rural development and discuss how such models could be applied across APO members. This is in line with the APO Vision 2025 and its commitment to developing productive\, sustainable\, inclusive rural tourism as an approach for rural development. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Training Course on Strategic Management for Public-sector Productivity Enhancement
DESCRIPTION:Public-sector organizations have had to transform in response to rapid changes and uncertainties. As a result of complex new challenges\, management of public services requires greater skills to guide the future course of public-sector organizations. These skills\, in essence\, are strategic management. They comprise deploying organizational capacity efficiently and managing performance to achieve the desired goals and higher productivity. \nMajor new issues facing public-sector organizations include aligning policies across organizations to meet strategic objectives and public expectations\, anticipating and planning for future needs\, and redeploying resources quickly as needs change. The OECD Public Service Leadership and Capability Report (2019) states that a good strategic orientation follows the principle of a long-term\, strategic\, systematic approach involving setting directions and priorities\, ensuring alignment with organizational planning processes\, and selecting appropriate indicators to monitor progress. \nThis training course aims at enabling participants to learn new management approaches in the public sector and the expertise required to anticipate and plan for future needs through strengthened strategic management capabilities. \nFor more details please click on PN.
