SUMMARY:Training Course on Knowledge Transfer to Improve Agricultural Productivity
DESCRIPTION:The value of agricultural production in APO members has reached approximately USD 1 trillion in recent years (FAO\, 2021). Progress in R&D by agricultural research institutes and organizations has played an important role in supporting continuous growth in production and productivity in the sector. \nAgricultural Knowledge and Information Systems (AKIS) support the sharing of knowledge among relevant stakeholders. While technologies and methodologies have evolved\, not all farmers in APO members are equipped to adopt and utilize them. There are several reasons for this\, but one constraint is the lack of structured\, robust knowledge transfer schemes to disseminate knowledge\, know-how\, and skills from research organizations to farming communities. \nThis training course will cover methodologies for knowledge transfer and technology dissemination among farmers\, examine key success factors from case studies\, and localize successful transfer schemes to meet the conditions and needs of member economies. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Tourism for Today and Tomorrow in Thailand
DESCRIPTION:Until recently\, the competitiveness of the tourism sector was largely determined by expansion on the demand side\, measured in terms of both the quantity and value of visitors. The economy\, society\, and environment are all affected by tourism\, both positively and negatively. In addition to responding to increasing demand\, the tourism industry is expected to reduce negative impacts on the supply side. Through the efforts of the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA)\, Thailand’s practices are highlighted\, emphasizing that sustainable tourism is now a must for the present and future. \nPlease click here to watch. \nSubscribe to our APO YouTube channel for more videos and updates on our activities. \nFor any inquiries\, please write to: p-talk@apo-tokyo.org.

SUMMARY:Multicountry Observational Study Mission on the Cashless Society
DESCRIPTION:In a cashless society\, financial transactions are conducted digitally. As digitalization progresses\, cryptocurrencies\, digital payments\, and ecommerce are more common. A cashless society helps reduce business risks and costs\, increases transaction speed\, and facilitates the collection of economic information and digital connection. It also creates concerns over users’ privacy\, marginalization of those without digital technology access\, and concentrated control of information\, as indicated in a 2022 report of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts\, Manufactures and Commerce of the UK. \nAs APO members promote digital upgrading and the development of a cashless society\, a review of how to maximize the benefits and reduce negative socioeconomic impacts is necessary. The APO Sustainable Productivity Summit in 2018 explored cashless society concepts\, and this study mission will examine its development in the Asia-Pacific region and identify strategies for its sustainable development. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Agricultural Innovations for Climate Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Agriculture has experienced challenges in maintaining and improving productivity under climate change\, which is stressing crops with droughts\, heat\, salinity\, and flooding. A report from Stanford University (2021) revealed that global farming productivity was 21% lower than it could have been without climate change. This indicates that climate change has basically wiped out about seven years of improvement in agricultural productivity over the past 60 years. \nIt is crucial to adopt innovations in agriculture to achieve multiple objectives\, not only to adapt to climate change\, but also to boost production to support growing populations and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural sector. Innovative technologies\, techniques\, tools\, and models must be adopted quickly and widely in APO members. \nThis workshop will provide a platform for leaders to learn about the latest innovations and good practices in agriculture and discuss how to disseminate them in APO members. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Conference on Green Productivity and the Circular Economy
DESCRIPTION:Most regions have yet to reap the benefits of economic growth resulting from industrialization. However\, the negative implications of the existing industrial “linear” model\, which does not consider environmental aspects in the product design stage\, are clear. \nTo negate the adverse impacts and keep the increase in the average global temperature within 1.5°C\, the 2022 Glasgow Climate Pact and 2015 Paris Agreement led to the UN SDGs and net-zero emission targets. Meeting the SDGs requires adoption of GP and CE tools and techniques by industry and end-users. \nIn 2022\, the APO publication Green Productivity and Circular Economy: Complementary Approaches to Sustainable Development cited the SDGs for countries and environmental\, social\, and governance (ESG) frameworks for corporations as two of the most recognized environmental initiatives\, with workforce training and technology adoption as crucial needs. This conference aims to build capacity in APO members in implementing GP and CE concepts. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Training Course on Data Analytics for SMEs
DESCRIPTION:Digital upgrading is essential for SMEs to improve productivity and stay competitive. The foundation of this transition is data generated from all aspects of operations\, which\, through effective collection\, analysis\, and visualization\, enable informed decisions\, optimize management\, and predict demand. \nThe advantages of SMEs are agility\, flexibility\, and ability to customize\, which require clear information and timely understanding of trends and market demand\, supported by meaningful data analysis. However\, as indicated in a 2019 OECD report\, SMEs usually face challenges in identifying relevant data\, lack resources and capabilities for data applications and analyses\, and need better strategies for data management. It is necessary to strengthen the capabilities of SMEs in acquiring and analyzing data. This training course will impart fundamental knowledge of data analytics and applications to support SMEs in digital upgrading and raising productivity. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Conference on Women's Leadership in Public-sector Organizations for Productivity Enhancement
DESCRIPTION:Improving female labor force participation in productive economic activities and increasing the number of women in leadership positions are critical for productivity growth. In the Asia-Pacific\, women continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions and still hold fewer than 45% of leadership positions in most sectors\, including the public sector\, and their untapped potential undermines national competitiveness (McKinsey & Company\, 2021). \nThere is a need to sensitize policymakers and government representatives to the importance of increasing the representation of women in managerial positions. Adopting more inclusive policies\, promoting the presence of women as dynamic leaders\, and supporting female leadership role models should all be priorities for public organizations. \nThis conference will examine how women’s leadership in public-sector organizations can improve organizational performance\, increase productivity\, and address gender equality gaps. \nFor more details please click on PN.
