SUMMARY:Multicountry Observational Study Mission on Promoting Green Manufacturing
DESCRIPTION:Increasing natural resource depletion and CO2 emissions necessitate the adoption of environment-friendly manufacturing practices. The need for greater economic efficiency\, with the least environmental impact\, led to the new manufacturing paradigm of GM. While GM practices were initially adopted by large-scale enterprises\, many SMEs have now started to implement them given their benefits and opportunities while adhering to strict environmental regulations enforced by governments. \nFor APO members\, GM applications by employing various innovative strategies and techniques to become more eco-efficient and raise productivity will help improve their environmental performance and achieve economic gains. GM adoption is thus a key step in achieving the ultimate goal of industrial sustainability in the region. This observational study mission will showcase the GM application of companies and the public policies that promote its adoption to enhance overall competitiveness and sustainability of industries. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Policies for Engaging Persons with Disabilities in Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:In 2019\, the UN reported that 80% of 1 billion PWDs worldwide lived in developing countries. Roughly 650 million were in the Asia-Pacific region\, with the majority in rural areas and primarily dependent on agriculture for food and livelihood security. \nA major cause of disability in rural areas is malnutrition caused by extreme poverty and food insecurity (IFAD\, 2020). In addition\, more farmers are being disabled by accidents due to mechanization and commercialization in the agriculture sector. Violence and armed conflict are other major causes of disability among rural dwellers. Rural residents with disabilities must confront major barriers to achieve food security and sustainable livelihoods. \nIt is essential to empower farmers with disabilities\, including women\, and make them economically self-reliant by developing the skills to become independent\, small-scale entrepreneurs. This workshop will examine policies for engaging PWDs in agriculture and increase inclusive productivity levels in APO member economies. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on the Green Tourism Certification Framework
DESCRIPTION:The tourism sector is a significant economic contributor as it generates employment and increases business opportunities in many APO members. The Travel & Tourism Development Index 2021 of the WEF has the theme “Rebuilding for a Sustainable and Resilient Future.” Embedding inclusivity\, sustainability\, and resilience in the travel and tourism sector as it recovers can be a driver of global connectivity\, peace\, and socioeconomic progress. \nGreen tourism is a growing trend that aims to minimize the negative impacts of travel on the environment\, society\, and economy. It promotes methods for businesses and organizations to reduce energy use\, save water\, use efficient and eco-friendly waste disposal\, minimize pollution and negative impacts on marine life\, and promote biodiversity. Green tourism certification benefits businesses\, consumers\, governments\, and local communities by addressing these issues and improving productivity in the sustainable tourism industry. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Green Innovation
DESCRIPTION:The WEF Global Risks Report 2023 put climate change\, adaptation\, extreme weather conditions\, and biodiversity loss as top global risks by severity over the next 10 years. Industry can no longer rely on conventional ways of producing and consuming products which have adversely impacted the environment. Focusing innovation specifically on greening business ecosystems would result in the development of lowcarbon technologies and nature-based products that may have low/long payback periods but would not impact the environment negatively. Public policy institutions act as catalysts for the adoption of innovations by creating conducive business environments through financial support for research\, tax benefits\, mandatory reporting\, etc. \nThis workshop is in line with the APO’s Green Productivity (GP) concept aimed at productivity enhancement and profitability at enterprise level\, with the least environmental impact\, by greening the process of innovation. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Digital Government for Inclusive Public Service Delivery
DESCRIPTION:Public services are changing with advances in technology. With ICT tools\, citizens can access government services efficiently and easily. Forty-six percent of Asia-Pacific citizens expect to access government services more frequently in the future\, with 73% believing that services have become more digitalized since the pandemic (Deloitte Digital Smart\, 2022). \nGovernment agencies face challenges in meeting citizens’ high expectations of digital service delivery to all\, even in remote areas of developing countries. As most governments aim to modernize operations and processes through digitalization\, they must consider how to offer services that are both accessible to citizens and conducive for businesses. \nThis workshop will discuss the effectiveness of digital transformation in the public sector\, accessibility challenges\, citizens’ engagement\, and collaborative networks to benefit all\, regardless of socioeconomic status and/or geographic location. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on True Value and Cost Accounting in Organic Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:The pandemic caused abrupt changes in people’s lives\, healthy food has never been more important\, and consumers have increasingly sought out organic labels (Organic Trade Association US\, 2021). However\, some stakeholders remain narrowly focused on crop productivity and short-term profits\, overlooking significant damage to the environment\, soil\, climate\, biodiversity\, rural communities\, and public health. Social\, environmental\, and economic benefits should be calculated using a common framework to allow for comparisons. \nThis workshop will cover methodologies for true value and cost accounting\, benefits\, and examples in organic agriculture and show how they can be compared with the performance of other production systems in APO members. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Training Course on Total Productive Maintenance for SMEs
DESCRIPTION:SMEs are the engines of growth and innovation globally\, accounting for 99% of all businesses and employing over 60% of the workforce. However\, a study conducted by the WEF in December 2022 showed that 67% of SMEs found adopting digital transformation their top challenge. Hence\, continued support is vital to ensure that SMEs are provided the opportunities and options to stay resilient and grow. \nTPM is a powerful management technique to empower SMEs as it focuses on comprehensive\, continuous optimization of production and maintenance with the direct participation of the entire workforce. It is timely to revisit this method and explore its possible integration into current digital transformation initiatives. \nThis training course will provide comprehensive\, practical knowledge on TPM techniques and systematic methods for implementation in SMEs as well as discuss how TPM can be integrated with digital manufacturing. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Training Course on Green Productivity
DESCRIPTION:Industrialization is a pathway toward economic development as it generates employment\, increases exports\, and raises standards of living. Emerging economies in the Asia-Pacific are undergoing industrialization but have yet to reap the benefits of economic prosperity. The current business scenario faces unprecedented challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic\, climate change\, high carbon emissions\, pollution\, and natural resource depletion. Enterprises need to adopt appropriate ways to grow sustainably. \nThe APO developed the GP concept to ensure that gains in productivity\, quality\, and profitability also improve social well-being and environmental protection. To build a pool of accredited GP experts in member economies\, the APO developed APO-GPS 201: Certification Scheme and Competency Standards for GP Specialists. This training course is a prerequisite for candidates to become certified GP Specialists. GP is one of the flagship programs offered by the APO to its members. \nFor more details please click on PN.
