SUMMARY:Training Course on Green Productivity
DESCRIPTION:Industrialization is a pathway toward economic development as it generates employment\, increases exports\, and raises standards of living. Emerging economies in the Asia-Pacific are undergoing industrialization but have yet to reap the benefits of economic prosperity. The current business scenario faces unprecedented challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic\, climate change\, high carbon emissions\, pollution\, and natural resource depletion. Enterprises need to adopt appropriate ways to grow sustainably. \nThe APO developed the GP concept to ensure that gains in productivity\, quality\, and profitability also improve social well-being and environmental protection. To build a pool of accredited GP experts in member economies\, the APO developed APO-GPS 201: Certification Scheme and Competency Standards for GP Specialists. This training course is a prerequisite for candidates to become certified GP Specialists. GP is one of the flagship programs offered by the APO to its members. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Improving Agricultural Productivity through Mechanization
DESCRIPTION:Farmers need to choose the most appropriate power source for any operation depending on the work to be done and on who is performing it. The level of mechanization should meet their needs effectively and efficiently (FAO\, 2023). \nSmall farmers play an important role in most developing countries and communities. Mechanization makes agricultural processes more efficient\, resulting in improved quality and increased yields. It also contributes to environmental sustainability by supporting the efficient use of natural resources such as water and land. \nHowever\, developing countries face difficulties in mechanization due to a lack of information and skills\, limited resources\, insufficient infrastructure\, and weak cooperative work systems involving machinery and labor. \nThis workshop will examine the benefits and potential of mechanization\, review case studies of mechanization appropriate for small farming operations\, and analyze opportunities to improve agricultural productivity through mechanization in APO members. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Supporting Youth in Entrepreneurship
DESCRIPTION:Innovation and entrepreneurship are major drivers of enhanced productivity\, and the creativity and ideas of the youth are sources of inspiration. The Asia-Pacific region currently hosts the largest generation of youth in history (UNDP\, 2020). However\, the capabilities of young people are not always incorporated in economic activities or reflected in innovation systems. It is crucial to provide the youth with enabling systems to unleash their potential. \nNurturing entrepreneurs and young professionals requires significant resources\, such as funding and financing\, training\, and networking opportunities. Governments\, businesses\, and organizations have devised policies and programs to support those in need; although benchmarking against good practices and contextualizing youth entrepreneurship are necessary to ensure effective delivery of support. \nThis workshop aims to identify key aspects of successful policies and programs for entrepreneurs and the youth to spur innovation-led productivity growth. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Training Course on Digital Manufacturing for SMEs
DESCRIPTION:A 2020 study conducted by the APO Center of Excellence (COE) on Smart Manufacturing found that SMEs in most APO members faced challenges in transitioning to Industry 4.0 systems. They are struggling to define the starting point to transform processes from analogue to digital. Although the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated digital transformation in various industries\, SMEs still lack top management support and know-how\, while facing market uncertainty\, process complexity and incompatibility\, and financial constraints. According to the OECD (2020)\, digital adoption gaps have grown over the last decade\, particularly for smaller SMEs with 10‒49 employees. \nIn collaboration with the China Productivity Center and Japan Productivity Center\, a new APO training manual on digital manufacturing is currently being developed. To test its effectiveness and gain feedback for improvement\, the manual will be used for this course. It is expected that this new manual will enable APO members to develop trainers and consultants who will guide SMEs in digital transformation. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Multicountry Observational Study Mission on Well-being and Productivity
DESCRIPTION:Fostering well-being and productivity is essential for individuals and organizations to thrive. The WHO defines “well-being” as a “positive state experienced by individuals and societies\, which is determined by social\, economic and environmental conditions.” By recognizing the connection between well-being and productivity\, workplaces can create positive environments. Understanding work–life balance\, flexible work arrangements\, and skill development for employees is crucial for this. \nAccording to a 2023 Harvard Business Review article\, a study conducted by Ernst and Young showed that for every additional 10 hours of vacation time that employees took\, their year-end performance improved by 8%\, and using all vacation time increased the chances of receiving a promotion or raise. Ensuring workers’ health and well-being not only contributes to higher productivity but also invigorates organizations\, resulting in improved performance and profitability over the long term. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Social Entrepreneurship for Persons with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:The unemployment\, underemployment\, and exclusion of persons with disabilities from the labor market incur social and economic losses estimated at 3–7% of GDP in Africa and Asia (ESCAP\, 2020). It is crucial to be mindful of these significant expenses and to incorporate disability inclusion while designing policies to support decent work and productive employment. \nThe COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affected PWDs. Many lost their jobs or experienced reduced hours\, exacerbating existing inequalities and challenges. Social entrepreneurship can provide tools for addressing the challenges faced by PWDs to overcome barriers and generate multiplier effects. \nThis workshop will provide a platform for addressing challenges faced by PWDs to promote their inclusion in the workforce\, examine entrepreneurial support initiatives for PWDs\, and explore innovative solutions to create more sustainable\, accessible workplaces by leveraging the power of social entrepreneurship. \nFor more details please click on PN.
