SUMMARY:Training Course on Blockchain Application
DESCRIPTION:Blockchains\, a disruptive technology\, are currently affecting various sectors and have the potential to bring about significant changes in the economic\, social\, and cultural fabric of society. The WEF has identified 21 promising technologies\, including the wearable internet\, ubiquitous computing\, the IoT\, and AI-based decision-making\, as transformative forces shaping the future. \nDespite the control exercised by large\, trusted intermediaries over the movement\, storage\, and allocation of finances and assets\, inefficiencies persist. Addressing challenges in the status quo\, cryptoassets\, smart contracts\, new identity systems\, and innovative financial business models can help overcome these inefficiencies. At the core of the Fourth Industrial Revolution\, blockchains are an area where cryptographic theory and network technology are applied in a complex manner. \nThe APO has been promoting blockchains in its members through various methodologies including a recent workshop in 2023. This training course is a continuing effort to provide individuals\, entrepreneurs\, and businesses with the tools needed to level the playing field and benefit from the value they create. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Value Addition of Gemstone Products for Compliance with International Standards
DESCRIPTION:Substantial gemstone resources are found in most APO member economies\, presenting an opportunity for industry growth. Countries like India\, Pakistan\, Sri Lanka\, and Thailand are well-known gemstone producers. Thailand reported that gems and jewelry products (excluding gold) generated USD8 billion\, accounting for 2.8% of total export value in 2022. Pakistan has the fifth-largest reservoirs of gemstones globally\, including rubies and emeralds and the abrasive agent corundum. However\, this industry faces challenges including inadequate cutting/ polishing techniques\, a shortage of skilled artisans\, lack of supportive policies and business environments\, and insufficient access to major gemological labs for affordable testing. Despite the global trend toward ethical\, sustainable jewelry\, a gap persists in understanding these concepts on the production side. \nThis workshop is designed to address these issues by providing knowledge of techniques and technologies to reduce waste\, enhance product quality\, and align with international standards. \nFor more details please click on PN. \n

SUMMARY:Training Course on AI Applications in the Service Sector
DESCRIPTION:According to a study by Accenture\, AI has the ability to increase productivity by 40% or more. Through data collection\, automation\, decision-making\, and cybersecurity\, AI can boost profitability by an average of 38%. This can help free up valuable time for employees. Applications of AI in the service industry particularly boost productivity\, client happiness\, data-driven decision-making\, cost-effectiveness\, and general corporate competitiveness. Automation can be used to replace rote and what would otherwise be considered unproductive tasks. It also allows workers to spend time doing what they enjoy more and exercising creativity to increase organizational productivity. For example\, no-code systems could be one solution by allowing business users to automate repetitive tasks\, streamline workflows\, and develop applications with minimal manual coding\, which could result in faster project delivery times to enhance productivity. Businesses hoping to prosper in the quickly changing digital landscape will find that adopting AI technologies is becoming more necessary. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Training Course on Data Analytic Skills for Service-sector Employees
DESCRIPTION:Digital upgrading is essential for all businesses to improve productivity and stay competitive. The foundation of this transition is the data generated from all aspects of operations\, which\, with appropriate collection\, processing\, and analysis\, help to optimize management\, understand demand\, and facilitate innovations that better satisfy the needs of customers. Many efforts for digital transformation are being made in the manufacturing sector to gain the easily observable outputs through digital technologies. \nNonetheless\, according to an EU-Japan Centre report in 2022\, services such as healthcare\, retail\, payment and financial transactions\, transport\, and general customer services also provide opportunities for digital upgrading and have direct impacts on daily life\, expediting overall digital transformation in society. \nStrengthening the capabilities of service-sector professionals for digital upgrading\, especially the ability to leverage the power of data\, will assist APO members in upgrading their businesses and building digital resilience. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Multicountry Observational Study Mission on Enhancing the Participation of Persons with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:According to a recent report by ESCAP\, the Asia-Pacific region is home to more than 700 million PWDs. That number is expected to grow due to population aging\, health conditions\, and natural disasters. Despite this expected increase\, PWDs continue to face multiple barriers in their participation in society and are frequently marginalized in development\, hindering equitable progress. \nAcknowledging their potential contributions is vital\, not only for productivity but also for meaningful engagement in social and political life and businesses. The APO has conducted several projects to address this issue such as workshops to discuss policies to engage PWDs in agriculture and explore innovative solutions to create more sustainable\, accessible workplaces through social entrepreneurship. To continue this effort\, this virtual observational study mission will show how to foster inclusivity across diverse sectors for creating more equitable\, informed societies. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Executive Leadership Programs for NPOs
DESCRIPTION:A 2021 McKinsey Global Institute report suggested that productivity could double postpandemic if changes extend from large firms to SMEs\, contingent on robust aggregate demand. However\, concerns about rising inequality and unemployment may jeopardize productivity gains. The Asia-Pacific faces postpandemic productivity challenges despite resilience in crisis management. Strengths in digitalization\, innovation\, and regional cooperation contrast with issues like aging populations\, environmental degradation\, social polarization\, and geopolitical tensions. \nLeaders of institutions like NPOs are crucial in shaping productivity policies. The APO recognizes the need to equip these leaders with skills to navigate challenges and expose them to the latest tools for guiding national productivity movements. In collaboration with INSEAD\, this program will enhance strategic thinking and decision-making skills to address evolving challenges in productivity policy and promotion in member economies. \nFor more details please click on PN.
