SUMMARY:Workshop on the Role of Intellectual Property in Sustainable Innovation and Economic Growth
DESCRIPTION:The nexus between IP and sustainable innovation is of paramount importance in driving productivity-led growth. The emphasis on innovation ecosystems\, as highlighted in the APO Vision 2025\, underscores the critical importance of this synergy. As a cornerstone\, IP facilitates the equitable sharing and protection of knowledge\, thereby fostering economic advances. Robust IP frameworks not only incentivize innovation but also contribute to job creation\, socioeconomic progress\, and innovation capacity. Through mechanisms such as exclusive-use provisions\, IP encourages investment in innovation\, thereby stimulating productivity growth. Recognizing the intricate role of IP is essential to address contemporary challenges and unlock the full potential of innovation to drive sustainable economic expansion. \nThis workshop will enable participants to effectively navigate the IP landscape and maximize its potential impact on the productivity and socioeconomic development of APO members. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Strategic Marketing for Digital Transformation
DESCRIPTION:The APO is mandated to support productivity enhancement in its members through SME development and digital upgrading. Easier access to digital devices and technologies enables SMEs to leverage resources and approach customers that were previously difficult to reach. Understanding how to apply digital means for strategic marketing is crucial for smaller businesses to stay resilient\, be more competitive\, and achieve digital transformation. \nA WEF report in 2023 highlighted the importance of digital marketing to drive the recovery of small businesses and help them reach new\, global customer bases. However\, the gap between businesses’ digital marketing expenditures and performance has widened\, according to a 2022 Harvard Business Review analysis. This workshop aims to discuss key success factors for effective digital strategic marketing and how it can drive productivity and digitalization efforts. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Green Business Models
DESCRIPTION:The path toward net-zero emissions requires industry to shift from the linear model of “take–make–waste.” Holistic approaches leveraging technologies\, innovation\, supportive financial mechanisms\, impact assessment of products and services\, and engagement of partners across value chains are needed to limit the global temperature rise within 1.5°C under the Paris Agreement during COP21. \nGreening businesses contributes to strengthening efforts to mitigate climate change due to increasing industrial activity beyond harnessing renewable energy. This transformation to greener business models requires identification of pain points related to environmental sustainability\, productivity\, and social contributions at an enterprise level and development of comprehensive plans fostering overall development with simultaneous business growth. \nThis workshop is aligned with the GP concept to develop the capacity of participants to address challenges in transitioning business models. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Training Course for Assessors for the Productivity Specialists Certification Program
DESCRIPTION:The assessment process is crucial for certification schemes. It ensures the consistency and quality of schemes\, enhances the credibility and reputation of both certified persons and CBs\, oversees compliance with rules and standards\, and upholds the code of ethics. Aligned with other international certification standards\, APO-PS 101:2023 provides guidelines for APO-AB accredited CBs to conduct assessment processes including documentation verification\, examination\, desktop assessment\, and face-to-face panel interviews before issuing certification to candidates. \nThese processes require capable individuals with skills and knowledge related to the certification scheme. Since the number of CBs is growing and more candidates need to be assessed\, the APO continues to offer this course to strengthen accredited CBs\, provide updates on the APOPS 101:2023\, and share best practices among CBs. Participants are expected to continue serving CBs as internal or external assessors after completion of the training course. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Reskilling the Public-sector Workforce
DESCRIPTION:Reskilling the public-sector workforce is essential for effective public service delivery\, especially with the rapid adoption of digital technologies revealing significant skill gaps in areas like AI and cloud computing. Addressing these gaps is crucial for maintaining operational continuity\, efficiency\, and speed while reducing costs. A digitally proficient workforce enhances inclusively and accessibility\, making services more equitable for all citizens. \nBy promoting innovation and agility through diverse career paths and public-private partnerships\, the public sector can better adapt to changing circumstances. Leadership is vital in aligning upskilling efforts with organizational goals and redefining performance management to support continuous learning. Balancing the development of both technical and soft skills ensures a well-rounded workforce capable of handling complex challenges. Investing in reskilling initiatives ultimately prepares the public sector for future demands\, creating a resilient\, responsive\, and future-ready workforce. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Training Course on Good Regulatory Practices
DESCRIPTION:“Regulations” refer to the use of legal instruments to adopt government policy interventions. Appropriate regulations serve to complement the democratic process and market economy to provide a fair\, equitable\, efficient environment for citizens and organizations to operate in\, enabling the improvement of productivity communitywide. However\, if not implemented appropriately\, regulations can result in unnecessary costs\, limit freedom\, reduce competition\, and block innovation. \nThe meta structures governing the development and review of regulations are referred to as “regulatory management structures” and comprise policies\, tools\, institutions\, and procedures as core components\, according to the APO report on “Regulatory Management Framework to Enhance Productivity.” \nSeveral projects on GRP have been conducted by the APO\, mainly focusing on enhancing awareness and imparting knowledge. To continue those efforts\, the APO and Center of Excellence on Publicsector Productivity is conducting this training course to develop more capable GRP experts in member economies. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Advancing Gene Editing in the Agrifood Sector
DESCRIPTION:Gene editing represents a significant advance in agricultural biotechnology\, offering a precise method to enhance plant\, fish\, and animal breeds to improve the quality and productivity of agricultural products. According to the FAO (2022)\, it can contribute to increasing crop yields\, enhancing nutritional profiles\, and bolstering environmental resilience. Gene editing allows for more precise modifications compared with traditional breeding methods\, potentially reducing the time and cost associated with developing new varieties or breeds. \nIn the Asia-Pacific region\, where genetically modified crops have seen limited adoption due to time\, cost\, and market requirements\, gene editing could be particularly beneficial due to its lower development costs and potentially more straightforward regulatory processes. For developing countries\, this technology offers an opportunity to tailor agricultural products to meet specific national needs\, addressing issues like food security and nutrition while considering socioeconomic impacts and environmental sustainability. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Multicountry Observational Study Mission on Productivity Enhancement in the Healthcare Sector
DESCRIPTION:Improving productivity in healthcare is crucial for reducing costs and enhancing patient care. Embracing technology can enhance efficiency\, reduce errors\, and optimize resource use in the healthcare sector. Technological integration can streamline administrative and care processes\, personalize patient interactions\, automate tasks\, and allow clinicians to focus on complex procedures\, leading to better healthcare outcomes (Deloitte\, Global Healthcare Sector Outlook\, 2024). However\, challenges include limited efficiency improvement opportunities and innovation barriers. \nThe ROK has gained global recognition among the APO members for its effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing significant challenges\, the country propelled the digital transformation of its healthcare industry\, resulting in positive changes. This swift digitalization has advanced real-time treatment and management technologies\, emerging as a prominent new business sector. This study mission will explore the latest trends and tools for enhancing productivity in the healthcare sector in the ROK\, alongside best practices for managing the COVID-19 pandemic. \nFor more details please click on PN.
