SUMMARY:Workshop on Social Resilience for Sustainable Societies
DESCRIPTION:Social resilience is the ability of human communities to withstand external shocks\, such as environmental variability or social\, economic\, or political upheaval\, and to recover effectively from such disruptions (Adger\, W. N.\, 2000). These upheavals affect all communities but in different ways. Extreme weather events and long-run climate change disproportionately affect the incomes of rural people living in poverty\, women\, and older populations. For example\, with each day of extreme heat\, poor rural households lose 2.4% of their on-farm incomes\, 1.1% of the value of the crops they produce\, and 1.5 % of their off-farm income (FAO\, 2024). In addition\, rural areas face population decline\, aging demographics\, and disadvantaged access to cities\, with GDP per capita 13% lower\, labor productivity 16% lower\, and employment rates 8% lower than in cities (OECD\, 2020). These challenges underscore the need for strengthened community resilience to protect the well-being of rural communities. \nThis workshop aims to equip participants with enhanced knowledge and practical skills to build more resilient rural communities. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Policies and Schemes on Gender Equality in Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Women are almost half of the agricultural workforce in developing countries. Based on a report by the UN World Food Program\, it is estimated that 60% of people who are food insecure worldwide are women and girls. Inequality makes it harder to increase productivity and reduce poverty and hunger. It also undermines progress toward sustainable agricultural development across multiple dimensions. \nChallenges faced in reducing such inequality include a lack of access to training and capacity development\, land ownership\, extension services\, and finance and wage systems equivalent to those of male workers. Appropriate policies and schemes on various facets of livelihood activities specifically for women could not only resolve gender-equality issues but also contribute to agricultural productivity and food security. Increasing the participation of women in the workforce has been promoted by the APO. SUMMARY:Training Course on Green Productivity
DESCRIPTION:Achieving robust business growth requires enterprises to focus on productivity enhancement beyond labor. Focusing on inputs such as energy and resources combined with technology upgrading would result in better quality\, increased profitability\, and reduced impacts of industrial activity on the environment. The GP concept developed by the APO in 1992 through a six-step and 13-task methodology guides enterprises in transitioning to business activities that are less reliant on limited natural resources\, generate less waste\, harness renewable energy sources\, and have minimal environmental impact. \nThis online course will provide theoretical learning on GP concepts\, tools\, and techniques before participants implement them in the workplace. SUMMARY:Conference on Behavioral Insights in Policymaking for Productivity
DESCRIPTION:Policymaking is crucial for productivity as it establishes the framework\, incentives\, and ecosystem in which an economy can operate efficiently. Well-designed policies address systemic barriers\, create enabling conditions\, and guide behavior to achieve sustained productivity improvements. In the future\, improving public-sector productivity will involve two distinct paths: first\, improving policy\, program\, service\, and regulatory outcomes; and second\, improving the policy and productivity environment for the private sector (APO Public-sector Productivity Manual\, 2020). \nTo accelerate this effort\, the APO introduced BIs in the past few years by conducting capacity-building initiatives to familiarize members with the concept and applications. Malaysia has been promoting BIs since 2020\, reflecting the government’s commitment to integrating them into public policy design for better-quality\, more effective regulations.
