SUMMARY:Training Course on Smart Building Solutions for Sustainable Productivity Outcomes
DESCRIPTION:Given the rapid rise in urbanization\, with the United Nations Population Fund projecting that the global population living in cities will reach around 5billion by 2030\, and the expanding role of the service sector\, the building sector continues to grow\, leading to increased energy demand and carbon footprints. Hence\, there is a need to reduce the environmental impact of buildings while maintaining the comfort of occupants\, leading to more economic output from energy consumption. By employing advanced technologies such as sensors\, automation\, and data analytics\, smart building systems can intelligently monitor and control energy consumption for heating\, cooling\, and lighting\, among other factors. This not only minimizes waste but also contributes to more sustainable\, eco-friendly operations\, aligning with the core principles of Green Productivity (GP). This training course aligns with the APO’s GP 2.0 endeavor and aims to expand the scope of GP to other economic sectors beyond manufacturing. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Meta-analysis of Soil Nitrous Oxide (N₂O) Emissions and Carbon Credit Methodology for Biochar
DESCRIPTION:Launched in 2023\, the APO COE on Climate-smart Agriculture (CSA) hosted by the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO)\, Japan set among its first objectives the visualization of agricultural GHG emissions and the strengthening of APO members’ capacity to design and implement effective mitigation strategies. In 2024\, efforts centered on CO₂\, with a focus on soil carbon sequestration modeling\, yielding significant progress in knowledge and capacity building. For 2025\, the COE on CSA will address N₂O\, a major GHG predominantly from agriculture. A pilot project will include a workshop on meta-analysis of soil N₂O emissions and biochar carbon credit methodology to evaluate model performance regionally. India\, a major N₂O emitter with extensive available data\, was selected as the focus country. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Reduction of Food Loss and Waste for Sustainable Food Systems
DESCRIPTION:When food is wasted\, all the resources used to produce it are also lost. The disposal of food in landfills leads to greenhouse gas emissions\, contributing to climate change. Loss and waste occur in different stages of food systems from production to consumption and vary based on economic situations. Food loss mainly occurs at the production level in low-economy countries\, while food is wasted at the consumer level in high-economy ones. It is essential to reduce FLW at all levels to meet UN SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. \nMeeting UN SDGs aligns with core framework of the APO’s Green Productivity (GP) 2.0 as it aims to balance socioeconomic progress with environmental sustainability. This workshop aligns with the APO’s GP 2.0 endeavor and aims to promote food security and sustainability in its members. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Multicountry Observational Study Mission on Women's Economic Empowerment
DESCRIPTION:Women’s economic empowerment is central to closing gender inequality gaps for economic diversification. It boosts productivity and increases income equality. According to UN Women (2024)\, the lack of equal rights and access to economic resources and markets limits women’s productivity and perpetuates multidimensional\, intergenerational poverty\, and gender disparities in income and well-being. Women’s economic empowerment is about the creation\, distribution\, and management of economic value\, establishing conditions for equal economic participation. This includes opportunities for decent work\, entrepreneurship\, and both paid and unpaid care and domestic work. \nBy 2030\, the Japanese government’s goal is for women to occupy at least 30% of executive roles. This study mission will provide opportunities to observe best practices and emerging trends in Japan for promoting women’s economic empowerment. Participants will develop proposals on how to promote women’s equality in their socioeconomic contexts. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Conference on Green Productivity 2.0
DESCRIPTION:The APO established GP to integrate productivity enhancement and environmental protection. Over three decades\, this initiative has equipped members with tools and methodologies for achieving sustainable development. However\, rapid advances in technology\, increasing emphasis on net-zero emission policies\, and the UN SDGs require GP to be revised to meet evolving demands. With the support of a special cash grant from the Government of Japan\, GP 2.0 introduces sector-specific elements forming a comprehensive ecosystem. This new initiative will support enhanced productivity while meeting global sustainability commitments. \nTo promote and discuss GP 2.0\, the APO collaborated with Pakistan to organize this conference. With the active involvement of Pakistan in promoting GP through demonstration projects\, certification\, and a technical working group\, this conference will also share the impact of GP implementation in the country as well as in other members. \nFor more details please click on PN.
