SUMMARY:Training Course on Upskilling and Reskilling the Public-sector Workforce
DESCRIPTION:Rapid digitalization of public-sector operations has exposed critical skill gaps\, particularly in data literacy\, AI\, and adaptive service delivery. These hinder institutional agility\, responsiveness\, and the ability to meet evolving citizen expectations. The APO publication Reskilling Workers for Enhancing Labor Productivity in Asia (2023) highlights the role of governments and industries in designing and implementing reskilling initiatives. \nThe APO initiated the Workshop on Reskilling the Public-sector Workforce in 2024. This year’s training course will focus more on how to use new methodology to tackle issues and challenges affecting publicsector workforces\, including digitalization. This aligns with APO efforts to promote public-sector productivity in its members. Participants will also discuss effective upskilling and reskilling programs for public servants to strengthen public trust\, attract and retain talent\, improve productivity\, and build institutional resilience. \nFor more details please click on PN.

SUMMARY:Enhancing Productivity in Informal Enterprises: Why a Mindset Shift Matters
DESCRIPTION:Informal enterprises account for a large share of employment and economic activity across the Asia-Pacific region\, yet their productivity remains persistently low. This P-Talk by Dr. Martha Alter Chen\, Co-founder\, Emeritus International Coordinator\, and Board Member of WIEGO in the United States\, examines a common issue in the way low productivity in the informal economy is addressed: treating informality itself as the main cause and treating formalization and conventional supply-side business support as the primary solutions. Dr. Chen explains why enhancing productivity in informal enterprises requires a different mindset and a reconsideration of conventional productivity concepts and measures. \nPlease click here to watch. \nSubscribe to our APO YouTube channel for more videos and updates on our activities. \nFor any inquiries\, please write to p-talk@apo-tokyo.org.
