Workshop on Unlocking the Value of Indigenous Gemstones

Pakistan possesses vast reserves of high-value indigenous gemstones, including emeralds, rubies, peridot, and topaz. However, much of the sector remains constrained by traditional mining techniques, limited processing capabilities, and informal trade channels, resulting in significant loss of economic value for both Pakistan and the broader region.

To unlock the full economic potential of this sector, transitioning from informal raw-stone trading to formal, high-value-added export models aligns directly with the SPP Primer on technology standardization, workforce upskilling, and industrial productivity.

Organized in collaboration with the National Productivity Organization Pakistan, Ministry of Industries and Production, and Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC), alongside technical expertise from regional hubs, this timely workshop provides a strategic platform to bridge technical gaps, enhance capacity in value chain development, and foster formal B2B market integration across APO member economies.
