Multicountry Workshop on AI and Impact on Workforce

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping job roles, skills requirements, and workforce structures across economies. While AI presents significant opportunities to enhance productivity, competitiveness, and innovation, it also creates challenges related to job displacement, skills mismatches, and workforce readiness—particularly for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and developing labor markets. Many economies lack practical frameworks and institutional capabilities to systematically assess AI’s impact on their workforce and to design targeted, humancentric workforce transition strategies. There is therefore a strong need for capacity-building platforms that equip policymakers and practitioners with foundational AI literacy, practical tools to assess workforce impact, and actionable strategies to develop AI-ready workforces that support inclusive and sustainable growth.

This workshop responds to this need by strengthening institutional capabilities and fostering peer learning across participating economies. Objectives include building foundational AI literacy; developing capacities to assess AI’s impact on local labor markets; and establishing strategies for AI-ready workforces. The workshop, together with the postworkshop scheme development phase, will contribute to strengthening institutional capacity among participating economies and support the development of forward looking, inclusive workforce policies in the age of AI.
