64th APO Governing Body Meeting Appoints New Leadership

The APO Governing Body comprising APO Directors/Acting APO Directors for the 21 members of the organization met virtually 7–8 June 2022 for its 64th session (GBM). Directors received and approved reports of APO activities in 2021 along with updates and new proposals submitted by APO Secretary-General Dr. AKP Mochtan.

The 64th GBM also appointed new leaders. Secretary of State, Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, Kingdom of Cambodia, Phork Sovanrith, assumes the role as APO Chair for 2022–23, succeeding outgoing APO Chair Zakia Sultana, Secretary, Ministry of Industries of Bangladesh.
Accompanying APO Chair Phork Sovanrith at the helm of leadership are Chairman Sheng-Hsiung Hsu of the China Productivity Center as First Vice-Chair and Permanent Secretary Osea Naitura Cawaru, Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations of Fiji as Second Vice-Chair. The 64th GBM also elected a new Secretary-General, Dr. Indra Pradana Singawinata, nominated by Indonesia, to serve during the period 2022–25.
Noting the multifaceted challenges confronting the global economy, Secretary-General Dr. Mochtan stated that the task ahead for the APO was “making a greater and more visible impact by crafting a new niche for contributions and redeveloping competency to enable the world and regional economies to emerge from these turbulent times through productivity.” Along the same line, APO Chair Phork Sovanrith concluded the meeting by underlining the expectation for the APO to continue assisting members in building resilience for postpandemic productivity growth.

The meeting was graced by the virtual presence and addresses by Minister Dr. Ida Fauziyah, Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia, and Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia Rachmat Gobel, who was a recipient of the APO Regional Award in 2005.
