Advancing Good Regulatory Practices in the Automotive Industry for Net-zero Emissions

16 Oct 2025

The Workshop on Good Regulatory Practice in the Automotive Industry to Achieve Net-zero Emission Targets was held on 23–26 September 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Hosted by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), it aimed to explore the changes happening in the automotive industry, especially the transition to electrified vehicles, and introduce good regulatory practices for net-zero emission compliance while boosting productivity.

Thirty-one participants from 14 APO members gained knowledge and insights from three resource persons: two from Malaysia and one from Singapore. A standout feature of the workshop was a visit to Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, where participants learned about Northport’s Electric Vehicle Battery Management Guidelines, developed in collaboration with the MPC. This visit demonstrated how the integration of electric vehicles and advanced battery systems can boost operational efficiency, extend battery lifespan, and reduce carbon emissions to address sustainability aspirations. Participants prepared individual action plans on the last day to put the knowledge acquired from the workshop into action.
