Advancing the Circular Economy through Digital Solutions

28 Jul 2025

To support sustainable development and Green Productivity, the China Productivity Center organized the Workshop on the Circular Economy through Digital Solutions, held 15–18 July 2025 in Taipei, the Republic of China. The in-person workshop brought together 24 participants from 13 APO member economies to explore how digital technologies can drive resource-efficient circular economy (CE) practices.

The workshop enhanced participants’ understanding of how digital innovations can reduce waste, extend product life cycles, and restore environmental balance. Through expert lectures, site visits to the New Taipei City Resource Recycling Center and SINGTEX Group, and interactive simulations, participants gained strategic and practical insights into implementing digital CE models. Six resource persons, one from Hong Kong, one from Singapore, two from the ROC, and two from Japan, shared their expertise on integrating CE principles with technology while addressing emerging challenges such as data security, digital waste, and inclusive digital access.

Participants developed actionable frameworks for digital CE adoption tailored to their national contexts. The workshop also fostered regional collaboration and raised awareness of ethical considerations in digital transitions. “The hands-on simulations and real-world examples made it easier to see how we can apply these ideas in our own organizations,” noted one participant. The event demonstrated the importance of cross-sector coordination in aligning digital strategies with circular economy goals for long-term sustainability.
