The BAPPENAS delegation met with APO officials at the APO Secretariat in Tokyo to exchange views on productivity governance and institutional capacity building.
A delegation from Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS), led by Chief Planner Dr. Taufik Hanafi, visited the APO Secretariat in Tokyo on 6 November 2025. The visit, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), was welcomed by APO Secretary-General Dr. Indra Pradana Singawinata and aimed to strengthen institutional capacity while exploring collaborative approaches to advancing productivity policies and implementation in Indonesia.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Indra emphasized the APO’s role as an intergovernmental organization that promotes inclusive and sustainable productivity growth across its member economies. Established in 1961, the APO serves as a think tank, catalyst, and adviser through more than 100 projects implemented annually.
Dr. Hanafi noted that that the collaboration between BAPPENAS and the APO reflects Indonesia’s strong commitment to enhancing productivity as a cornerstone of sustainable economic growth. He also remarked that the APO’s insights into governance, institutional reform, and innovation complement Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its productivity ecosystem.
During the visit, the APO presented an overview of its institutional framework, governance structure, and organizational initiatives that help member economies design and implement productivity strategies. The presentation also highlighted the APO’s collaboration with BAPPENAS in formulating Indonesia’s National Productivity Master Plan 2025–2029, officially launched in Jakarta in October 2025. The master plan provides a strategic framework to accelerate productivity growth as a key driver of national development, emphasizing improved governance, innovation, technology adoption, and human capital enhancement.
A discussion session followed the presentations, covering topics such as the function of the Governing Body Meeting as the APO’s highest decision-making platform and the transition from the APO Vision 2025 to the Vision 2030 framework. Participants also discussed how organizational reforms enable the APO to remain adaptive to evolving productivity challenges across Asia and the Pacific.
Concluding the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in support of the implementation of Indonesia’s National Productivity Master Plan.
