Driving Low-carbon Innovation: APO’s First AI-based DMP Project Concludes in Turkiye

19 Jun 2025

On 27 May 2025, the APO Secretariat and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Turkiye, concluded the Development of Demonstration Companies (DMP) project titled Productivity Improvement through AI Application in Carbon Accounting and Emission Management with the official launch of the DecarbonAI tool. The hybrid dissemination event brought together 53 participants from seven APO members, local enterprises, academia, and the technology, finance, and manufacturing sectors. The event also featured a panel discussion and a workshop on AI use cases and sustainability challenges.

Implemented from July 2024 to May 2025 at Reengen Enerji Teknolojileri A.S., a software company in Istanbul, Turkiye, the project aimed to establish a role model for leveraging AI to enhance carbon accounting, emission management, and regulatory compliance.

Under the guidance of a resource person from Germany, a multiagent AI system named DecarbonAI was successfully created. By providing real-time consultation on carbon accounting; environmental, social, and governance report generation; and emissions analysis, the system has significantly enhanced operational efficiency, data accuracy, and decision-making capabilities for the demonstration company and other users. As the APO’s first AI-focused DMP project, the project sets a good benchmark for how digital innovation can accelerate climate action and productivity while providing a powerful tool for implementing low-carbon development strategies.
