Empowering Agricultural Innovation with AI: Turkiye Hosts Hands-on Training on Crop Classification

14 May 2025

A face-to-face Technical Expert Services training course on using AI applications for crop classification in agriculture was held in Ankara, Turkiye, from 14 to 18 April 2025, hosted by the Integrated Administration and Control Systems (IACS) Department of the General Directorate of Agricultural Reform (GDAR), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MoAF). The training aimed to equip agricultural officers with practical knowledge of AI and Python programming for crop classification and remote sensing.

Twenty-one participants from central and provincial MoAF offices benefited from the project. With the support of the Inter Islamic Network on Space Sciences and Technology (ISNET), two resource persons from the Space and Upper Atmospheric Research Commission (SUPARCO), Pakistan, delivered specialized training covering topics such as AI algorithms, satellite image analysis, Python scripting, and land-use mapping. The training significantly enhanced participants’ awareness of AI tools and their capacity to apply them in real-world agricultural contexts. It also contributed to improved GIS data management. The initiative also supported Turkiye’s broader goal of digital transformation in agriculture by closing capacity gaps and aligning institutional practices with modern technological solutions.
