Conference on Role of Green Productivity in Transition to Cleaner Energy

The World Meteorological Organizations’ State of the Global Climate report confirmed that 2024 was likely the first year with global temperatures over 1.5°C above preindustrial levels. This highlights the urgent need to combat climate change through cleaner, more sustainable energy systems. Countries are working to diversify energy sources, boost efficiency, and reduce fossil fuel dependence. However, this transition requires a holistic approach that integrates productivity, environmental sustainability, and socioeconomic development.

The GP concept, introduced by the APO in 1992, supports this by promoting actionable strategies like green purchasing, design changes, and the 3Rs that enhance both environmental and productivity outcomes. In 2024, the new GP 2.0 roadmap included the promotion of cleaner energy by encouraging the adoption of low-carbon technologies, sector-specific green innovations, and circular economy practices to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation.
