Rapid digitalization of public-sector operations has exposed critical skill gaps, particularly in data literacy, AI, and adaptive service delivery. These hinder institutional agility, responsiveness, and the ability to meet evolving citizen expectations. The APO publication Reskilling Workers for Enhancing Labor Productivity in Asia (2023) highlights the role of governments and industries in designing and implementing reskilling initiatives.
The APO initiated the Workshop on Reskilling the Public-sector Workforce in 2024. This year’s training course will focus more on how to use new methodology to tackle issues and challenges affecting publicsector workforces, including digitalization. This aligns with APO efforts to promote public-sector productivity in its members. Participants will also discuss effective upskilling and reskilling programs for public servants to strengthen public trust, attract and retain talent, improve productivity, and build institutional resilience.
