The agrifood sector is crucial for growth, food security, and rural livelihoods throughout Asia; however, smallholder farmers often face challenges due to limited market access, fragmented supply chains, and imbalanced profit distribution. This report provides a framework for change, emphasizing how productivity gainsharing can help transform agriculture throughout the region. This report examines 10 APO members, highlighting that collaboration and innovation in farmer–producer organizations in India, aquaculture clusters in Bangladesh, and blockchain-powered shrimp traceability in Thailand have tangible results. Moreover, public–private partnerships (such as Vietnam’s low-carbon rice program and Lao PDR’s rice cooperatives) reveal how investment and supportive policies can create opportunities for farmers. Furthermore, when farmers share in productivity gains, communities and agriculture become increasingly resilient, and food systems become more sustainable. Thus, Asia’s agrifood sectors can expand cooperatives, invest in infrastructure, scale digital technologies, and adopt climate-smart practices, thereby realizing inclusive growth and ensuring its future. This report provides actionable approaches for governments, industries, and communities to support farmers in developing a successful, sustainable, and competitive food system. |
