Title APO Productivity Outlook 2026
Author(s) Chungnam National University
Description The APO Productivity Outlook 2026 examines how energy efficiency can drive sustainable productivity growth across the Asia-Pacific region. As APO member economies face rising energy costs, climate pressures, and intensifying global competition, improving energy efficiency has emerged as a critical strategy for strengthening both economic performance and environmental sustainability. By enabling economies to generate greater output with lower energy input, energy efficiency can reduce production costs while supporting climate objectives.
Building on the previous edition’s focus on climate change and productivity, the 2026 edition adopts a more targeted approach, analyzing how improvements in energy efficiency influence productivity at both macroeconomic and sectoral levels. The report presents comparative analysis across APO member economies, with detailed examinations of agriculture and manufacturing—two sectors where energy use and productivity dynamics are particularly significant. It also proposes an improved framework for developing Energy Efficiency Indicators (EEIs) to strengthen measurement and benchmarking. Together, these insights offer practical guidance for policymakers seeking to advance productivity, sustainability, and economic resilience.
