Description | Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Asia have been facing a variety of challenges since the end of the pandemic, despite their significance in local economies. This report presents an in-depth exploration of the challenges and opportunities facing SMEs across the diverse economic contexts of the 12 APO members covered in the study, particularly focusing on productivity, technological capability enhancement, and innovation-related issues. Digital transformation is also examined as a critical enabler of SME resilience and competitiveness in the post-pandemic era. It assesses the current capabilities and systems of SMEs, evaluates support mechanisms for SMEs from a variety of sources, and provides policy recommendations to support SME innovation and productivity for a more resilient future. |
