The National Productivity Secretariat of Sri Lanka, conducted the Training Course on Development of Productivity Specialists (Basic) from 16 to 27 June 2025 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This course is part of the APO’s restructured training program for the development of productivity specialists, which separates basic and advanced levels to ensure level-appropriate learning and professional growth.
The course aimed to introduce essential productivity tools and techniques, demonstrate the competencies required of productivity practitioners, and familiarize participants with the standards of APO-PS 101:2023 Requirements for Productivity Specialists. Successful completion of the course supports eligibility for certification under this APO-accredited scheme.
Twenty-five participants from 13 APO members completed the course, learning from four expert resource persons from the ROC, Malaysia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. The first week focused on theoretical knowledge, while the second included field visits. Participants conducted productivity diagnoses at local companies or agencies and presented findings and improvement suggestions. A key feature of the course was the inclusion of IoT and AI topics, encouraging participants to explore digital transformation. As a result, some groups included digital transformation plans in their productivity diagnoses and suggestions for improvement. Many participants expressed interest in continuing with the advanced course and applying for certification in the future.
