NPC India organizes workshop on Green Hydrogen Systems

18 Mar 2024

In a significant move to support the adoption of sustainable energy solutions, the National Productivity Council (NPC), India, in collaboration with the APO Secretariat organized a workshop on Green Hydrogen Systems for the Sustainable Energy Transition, 7–9 February. It aimed to facilitate member economies’ understanding and adoption of green hydrogen, a pivotal component in achieving net-zero emission targets. The workshop was attended by 47 participants from 12 APO member economies and focused on emerging trends in harnessing renewable energy for green hydrogen production.

The online workshop was facilitated by five resource persons, one from Canada and two from both India and Italy who shared insights on the technical, economic, and policy aspects of green hydrogen systems. Participants engaged in discussions on emerging trends, exploring the intricate balance between harnessing renewable energy for green hydrogen production and addressing the associated challenges. With a focus on successful case studies of green hydrogen ecosystems, attendees gained valuable knowledge and practical insights to effectively navigate the transition to cleaner energy sources.

The workshop underscored the urgent need for collective action in the face of escalating climate change challenges. As the world intensifies efforts to expand renewable energy capacities and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, hydrogen is a promising clean energy carrier. Its versatility in generating power and heat and serving as a feedstock across various industries positions green hydrogen as a cornerstone in achieving the SDGs. By leveraging renewable energy sources for hydrogen production, economies can move toward net-zero emission targets without compromising economic growth, aligning with the objectives of the APO’s Green Productivity Program and fostering global sustainability.
