Survey of Green Purchasing and Procurement
in selected APO Member Countries
The Johannesburg Summit reaffirmed the sustainable development as a
central element of the international agenda and gave new impetus to
global action to fight poverty and protect the environment. Sustainable
production and consumption emerged as a very important area for future
action. To this end, the APOfs Green Productivity program recognizes
the importance of Greening Supply Chain and Green Procurement, which is
a major thrust area for the future APO activities.
To understand the current practices of the Green Purchase and Green
Procurement, the APO with the help of
Green Purchasing Network
(GPN)
, Japan undertook a detailed survey on Green Purchase and Green
Procurement activities in Japan, Republic of China, Korea and Malaysia
during 2003. The objectives of the survey were:
- To better understand the present status of green purchase
and procurement by private companies in the selected member
countries;
- To disseminate the information on green purchase and
procurement activities in member countries and to encourage
private companies in each country to follow the similar actions
in order to promote the greening of the supply chain;
- To enhance the capabilities of NPOs in promoting the GP
concept and the greening of supply chains of its SMEs;
- To support member countriesf companies to be
internationally competitive in the global market.
