26–28 June 2007, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Welcome Address
by Dr. Pagvajav-Un Shurchuluu
APO Director for Mongolia
Honorable Minister of Ministry of Trade and Industry Mr. Davaadorj;
APO Chairman & Vice-Chairmen;
Fellow APO Director;
APO Secretary-General Mr. Shigeo Takenaka;
Excellencies, Honored Guests, Advisers, and Observers:
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Welcome to the 49th session of the APO Governing Body.
It is a great honor for the NPDC to host this important meeting on behalf of the member countries. The Center has been actively organizing several international events every year. The Governing Body meeting is certainly the most prestigious one so far and I am proud that the NPDC is given the trust and confidence to implement it together with the APO Secretariat.
This year, the National Productivity Development Center is celebrating its 15th anniversary. The productivity journey in Mongolia began in the early 90s with the introduction of quality improvement techniques. We saw a great need to improve quality and productivity in the country. Since its inception, therefore, the NPDC aims to contribute to accelerating the country’s economic growth by spearheading productivity movement throughout the country. In this context, Mongolia’s membership in the APO and the appointment of the NPDC as the National Productivity Organization for Mongolia was a significant milestone in our journey.
We have made a number of proud achievements during the short span of 15 years of our existence. To mention a few, last year, the NPDC successfully carried out a Change Management project at the Baganuur Mining Co. The project was so successful that the company now becomes a role model on productivity management techniques for other Mongolian enterprises. Of recent, the NPDC has also initiated the preparation of a National Productivity Policy for 2020 and delivered it to the President of Mongolia.
The NPDC continues to evolve and we aim to become a center of excellence. For this purpose, we will continue to expand our undertaking to tackle productivity and quality issues and we also affirm further our commitment to national and international society under the APO’s credo of “Making tomorrow better than today.”
Taking this opportunity, I would like to convey our deep thanks and appreciation to the APO and its member countries for all the continued support and commitment to Mongolia. I have no doubt that the 49th session of the APO Governing Body being held in Ulaanbaatar from today onward would widen and deepen further the APO’s role and contribution to all the member countries. I wish all the distinguished delegates a fruitful deliberation and an enjoyable stay in Ulaanbaatar.
Thank you.
